General Description/History

An herbaceous perennial, Iberis, or Candytuft as it is commonly known is a small potted plant that is covered in many star-shaped white flowers in spring. Leaves are evergreen, glossy, alternate, lance-shaped and are about 2 to 3 cm long. Flowers are small, with 4 oblong petals and yellow centres and are borne in clusters of up to 5 cm across. The lower two petals are much larger and open first, giving the flower a “rabbit ears” appearance.

Often sold as hanging baskets. In the garden they form mounds about 60 cm across and 25 cm high.

Available: All year; Flowers in Spring

What to look for

Flower Care

  1. Place in dappled shade, or full sun.
  2. Water 2 to 3 times a week during hot weather.
  3. Feed with a liquid fertiliser every week during flower formation.
  4. Cut back after flowering – cut about a third off each branch.
  5. Handle carefully, as stems easily detach from the plant.
