Description

The fruit is round oblate and purple. Skin is glossy, smooth and leathery. The flesh is softer than the green variety with a purple-white, milky, sweet pulp, with a many-pointed star central core like an asterisk. The fruit is believed to have originated from Central America and West Indies. It is usually spoon eaten, however, is also used in sorbets, ice creams or fruit platters. Choose fruits that are unblemished, smooth and yield slightly when pressed at the stem.
