General Description/History

• Male flowers of the paw paw tree
• Flowers of the paw paw are usually either male or female
• Male flowers are borne in many-flowered panicles up to 1 m long. The flowers are yellowish, 2-4 cm long, and the petals are fused into a long tube
• They are usually white or cream in colour
• Used in cooking: flowers are boiled for a savoury meal in Asia, while in Indonesia they are often boiled and candied for a dessert
• Available: rare, but can be found all year
