General Description/History

There are many Kunzea species, but cut foliage is usually K. ericifolia. Branches are up to 70 cm long and are covered in small, slightly curved scale-like and aromatic leaves. Branches contain many small branchlets that are tipped with rounded yellow flowers. Usually sold when flowers are in bud, when open the flowers have a fluffy appearance and are perfumed. Open flower do not last long. Each flower head is made up of several rounded yellow buds, that open to form flowers that resemble yellow Eucalyptus flowers with many prominent stamens.

What to look for

  • Branches with closed flowers;
  • Unmarked, green leaves.

Flower Care

  1. Keep cool at all times.
  2. Strip leaves from the lower half of each stem, and wash stem ends under the tap.
  3. Recut at least 2 cm off each stem and place in water immediately.
  4. Do not bash or split stems.
  5. Always use a preservative as this will help buds to open.
  6. Replace vase water with fresh preservative every day.
