General Description/History

Yuccas are hardy desert plants commonly found in arid areas of southern US and Mexico. The plants form a rosette of tough spear-shaped leaves that are up to 90 cm in length. Flowering stems shoot straight up from the centre of the plant and there is usually only one per plant. These flowering stems are huge and can reach up to 3m in height, depending on species. Each stem has no leaves and bears many white bell-shaped flowers and buds. The large buds and flowers are a beautiful creamy white with purple petal tips and are @ 5 to 7 cm long.

What to look for

  • Straight stems
  • Unblemished flowers and many buds. Shake stems to make sure there is no flower drop.

  2. Recut at least 2 cm off each stem with sharp secateurs or snips and place in water immediately.
  3. Do not bash or split stems.
