Available as single stems or bunches, each long stem is topped with a brush-like mass of filament-like light green leaves. The base of the ‘brush’ is often yellow in colour and the top can be clipped to form a neater look. The stems can be well over 1 metre in length, and are tough and fibrous.
What to look for
- Straight stems
- Avoid bunches with yellow leaves.
Flower Care
- Keep cool at all times.
- Recut at least 2 cm off each stem with sharp secateurs or snips and place in water immediately.
- Do not bash or split stems.
- A preservative is optional
- Replace vase water every other day.
Interesting Facts about this Flower
These aquatic plants are the same ones the Egyptians made their papyrus paper from. The English word ‘paper’ is derived from papyrus. In the Bible Moses was hidden in a thicket of papyrus (or bulrushes as they were called) as a baby.
