- This is a complex hybrid between a plum and an apricot
- A pluot is roughly ¾ plum and 1/4 apricot, but look like a plum from the outside
- Pluot is a registered trade mark of Zaiger Genetics, Calif., who bred the pluot in the 1990’s
- There are many varieties, with smooth skins with a colour ranging from deep red to pale yellow and green
- Flesh colour can range from yellow, to white or pink to red/orange
- They have a very sweet intense flavour, sweeter than either plums or apricots
- Common varieties in Australia are the ‘Flavor’ range, ‘Flavorosa’, ‘Santa Rosa’, and ‘Dapple Dandy’
- Available: December (‘Flavorosa’) to April
