General Description/History

• Zucchini plants have either male or female flowers
• Both are edible
• Both are large, star-shaped golden-yellow flowers with 5 petals
• Female flowers are borne at the end of the tiny fruit
• Male flowers are slightly smaller and grow on the plant, so they have a stalk
• Look for firm, fresh looking flowers that are only slightly open
• Remove stamens, anthers and ovaries before cooking
• Many recipes involve stuffing zucchini flowers
• Available: November to May, but best supplies are January to April
